The Global Studies Diploma program offers students a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education that empowers them to examine the world through multiple lenses. By integrating perspectives from the humanities, world languages, and sciences, this program encourages students to expand their horizons and nurture their identities as global citizens. Over the years, the program has grown, providing students with opportunities to explore diverse global cultures and issues while reflecting on their own place in the world. This connection between classroom learning and real-world experiences at the local, national, and global levels is at the heart of the program.
Program Structure: Upon acceptance, students choose from one of four concentrations: Science, World Languages, Economics, or Political Science. Alongside their chosen focus, they take foundational courses that cover a broad range of global themes. Throughout the program, students also earn points in three key categories: Global Action, Cultural Engagement, and Student Choice. The program culminates with a senior capstone project, where students present a paper and reflect on their experiences, sharing how they plan to continue their global engagement in the future. Many graduates pursue internationally focused studies and careers, often crediting the program for inspiring their paths.
Adapting to a Changing World: The program’s flexibility has been particularly evident in recent years, especially during the global pandemic. While in-person experiences were limited, we continued to bring the world to our students through innovative virtual opportunities like online Model UN conferences, TED Ed’s Earth School workshops, and discussions with guest speakers from local universities and cultural institutions. These adaptations allowed students to remain engaged and prepared them to embrace in-person global experiences when they returned.
Student and Alumni Impact: Our students are active participants, eager to engage with the world through travel, international relations, social justice, and more. Graduates frequently reflect on the transformative impact of the program, with many continuing their global studies in college and beyond. Their enthusiasm, combined with their unique interests, shapes the program and inspires the next generation of global learners.
