  • Lower School

The appropriate use of technology enriches students’ learning experience across disciplines and promotes higher order thinking skills. Students in grades PK-5 benefit from a 1-1 iPad program. Students use Computers, iPads, and 3-D printers as learning tools to support classroom curriculum, develop research skills, and design and build interdisciplinary projects. Students study and use a variety of creative content, authoring and sharing applications. Multimedia projects are designed as interdisciplinary projects, and targeted curricular software provides instructional reinforcement. Skills such as keyboarding, coding, and navigating the Internet safely and effectively are taught. The Coding curriculum begins in PK. Students are first introduced to robotics and coding concepts using KIBO robots and Kodable. Coding continues throughout the Lower School using Blue-Bots, Hopscotch, LEGO Mindstorms, LEGO Wedo 2.0, Scratch, Scratch Jr, and Sphero.
  • Middle School and Upper School

Students have Office 365 and Canvas accounts where they can safely store and access their work from school or home. Middle School students benefit from our 1-1 iPad program, while Upper School student progress towards bringing in a laptop or an iPad for their academic program.

Brimmer believes it essential that all students have a baseline of computer knowledge and skills to thrive in our society. The Brimmer Technology Department develops creative and efficient students prepared for the dynamic technological world. The department has created an environment in which all students have access to a variety of technologies. We encourage teachers to integrate technology into their curriculum to enhance their teaching methods, encourage and develop student creativity, and to improve student achievement.

One goal of the Technology Department is for students to develop the skills needed in the field of technology to be prepared for Upper School work and their future educational and vocational endeavors. As students' progress through each grade, they are exposed to scaffolded technology that allows them to build on their knowledge and ability. Upon graduation, each student will have a foundation of skills and exposure to many facets of technology.
